I don’t know when I got to the age of 23. Somewhere between graduating high school and slowly, but surely, maneuvering through college, I found myself at this age. Being a twenty-something is scary, but exciting. It’s freedom, but it’s restraint. We’re not girls and not yet women, to quote B. Spears. Being in your twenties leaves ample opportunity for many mistakes to be made and learned from, many people to kiss and many jobs to complain about. Being in your twenties is a special time, and sometimes I worry that I’m worrying it away! (Yes, I worry about worrying…you’ll get used to how neurotic I am.) I have been told my entire life that I should cherish this time in my twenties because once I hit thirty, my life will basically end. I beg to differ, but whatever. I guess when I was told this, usually by my crazy aunt, she was referring more to the fact that I’ll probably never look better than I do right now, but if Jennifer Aniston is any proof that women can look even better as they age, I think I’ll be okay.
I guess I should stop being rude and introduce myself. My name is Katie. I’m a former CC intern turned staff writer, and I’m here to vent and discuss what it means to be a twenty-something in this crazy, mixed-up world we’re living in. I hope that I can write some pieces that you guys can all relate to. I’ve been told that I should write a book based on all the weird stuff that happens to me on a daily basis, but for now, this column will do. I don’t really know how I end up in these crazy situations, but I’m glad I do because you guys can benefit from it! To make a long autobiography short, I am a huge idiot when it comes to guys, a completely anxiety-ridden friend (taking on everyone else’s problems is my thing), and I like to think I have a heart of gold. I also wear that heart of gold right on my sleeve (thus being a huge idiot when it comes to guys).
Confessions of a Twenty-Something will be a weekly column where I dish on the issue of the moment. Whether I’m focusing on love, sex, friendship, style, school, jobs, etc. I hope that I can write relatable and thoughtful (with a dash of humor) pieces that tackle these issues that seem to have become more prominent now that we’re twenty-somethings.
I’m really good at over-thinking everything, and if you are too, this is the perfect column for you to read! This is the time in our lives when all these things (love, sex, friendship, etc.) seem to come together in the worst possible way and make us stress out as we try to put each piece of the Life Puzzle in its proper place. And don’t worry, I won’t forget to add the good stuff too.
Katie is finishing up her undergrad at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois. She enjoys wasting hours on Facebook and tweeting things no one cares about. When asked the question, “Do you do marathons?” She promptly responds, “Of course! Which show?” Follow her @KatieGarrity! Jennifer Aniston, like a fine wine gets better with age. Couldn't agree more!

Can't wait to read. I just turned 21 and maneuvering through college as well, so it'll be nice to have a perspective from someone close in age.
