A Response To The Commenters That Hate Me
July 22, 2012 9:03 pm Posted in Homepage Exclusive Caitlin Corsetti g+ page
Happy Sunday from your favorite “cyber-bully”, “jealous bitch”, and apparent incompetent writer! I hope you’re all enjoying this fine day. I would like to take this time to thank you for all of the views on my articles last weekend! It’s people like you that keep bloggers like me in business. So despite all of the heinous comments I received last week, I ultimately have to say thanks. I would like to especially thank my Phi Mu friends who thanked me for writing.
You see, I’ve been getting a lot of angry responses for my article on the Kristen Saban situation. However, I’d like to point out that I have heard some really horrible things from people who have been around her that I refused to mention in my article. I also would like to point out that I could have written a scathing article like the one on Total Frat Move. That being said, I could have easily written something boring that just stated the facts of the case. But I didn’t. Why, you ask? Because when my editors brought the story to my attention, they asked me if I had an opinion on it. I did. Then I wrote about it.
I tend to live by the old adage of “you can’t please everyone” because you just can’t. However, what bothers me is that the commenters who left hateful comments attacking my personal character and who said what a horrible person I am have no ground to stand on. You’ve attacked me because you feel I’ve attacked someone else. Why is it that when I write about events that occurred with someone I’ve actually encountered, it’s considered in bad taste? I’ve written much worse things about Lindsay Lohan, Rihanna, Tom Cruise, and more. I’ve never run into any of them or gone to school with them. I also never received as many hateful comments on something I’ve written.
Honestly, such is life in this business. I go into every article knowing that someone will have something to say. That’s fine. It comes with the territory. People have said worse things about me, and I really don’t care. I wouldn’t have this career if I cared what people said. To those who did write nasty comments though, I’d like to point out your hypocritical nature. You’re mad at me for writing something true and that wasn’t even mean, yet you’re commenting about how much I suck. So that kind of invalidates everything you say. Plus, some of you trolled the comments under different names using the same IP address.
Anyway, I stand by every article I’ve written. My editors stand by every article I’ve written. If you’re so offended, then feel free to take your readership elsewhere. I promise, I won’t be mad.

I didn't mind your article on Kristen Saban at all, but I am a little confused about this response. Above, you plainly admit that it bothered you that people said really mean things about your personality and character, and then you go on and say that you don't care what anyone thinks or says about you. So did it bother you or not? I'm guessing it did, because If you really didn't care about what people said about you, then you wouldn't have had to write this article trying justify yourself and one-up the haters by insulting them back. Take the high road next time and skip the in-your-face take-your-readership-elsewhere response.

Alejandra, perhaps I should have clarified better. I'm not bothered by what people said, truly. I'm bothered that people felt the need to attack me when they thought I attacked someone else. It's the hypocrisy factor that I'm irritated with.
My editors and I discussed writing a response because there was so much controversy over the article. I felt it was the right thing to do. I'm not trying to one-up anyone. It's not an "in-your-face" attitude either. I just want people to know that I'm not going to be upset if someone doesn't want to read something because in the end, I am perfectly happy with the work I do.

I never understood how some people have so much time to be a cyber bully. To those who troll web sites and add mean comments for fun: if you don't like it then don't look at it.

It's amazing how people can waste their time getting so offended by an article on the internet which is the opinion of someone they don't even actually know.

This post is such a breath of fresh air. I run into this all the time. I like playing up stereotypes in my posts and some just don't like it. I'd like to say thank you for making me personally feel better. I also never write back to haters because it starts a war. Not chic. But you have addressed things perfectly in your post. You've addressed them to the masses, not an individual attack. I love it. Thank you. I once heard that the bravest thing anyone could do was put their work out there.

The best writing is that which stirs this kind of response. Controversy is necessary; never compromise yourself or writing to appease those who bully people on the Internet. Roll tide(:

Aw, I've liked all of your articles on College Candy; you're one of my favorite CC writers! I missed the whole debacle but when I saw this article I had to say something. Everyone is entitled to an opinion! Keep writing!

And you had to take one more jab at Kristen. "However, I’d like to point out that I have heard some really horrible things from people who have been around her that I refused to mention in my article" — have you every played a game of telephone and do you realize that girls twist everything to add drama and make it sound better?! I once heard from my husband who heard from his coworker who heard from his friend who heard from her mom who heard in the locker room at the local gym who heard from two women over lunch at north river yacht club that kristen is a horrible person. you're annoying.
