No Bread, No Pasta…Uh, No Problem? Week 1 [One Month Challenge]

I’ve been abstaining from bread and pasta for five whole days now! (Decided to get started on Monday. Figured I might as well rip the band aid off already.) Yes, I do realize that this doesn’t necessarily sound that impressive to most of you guys. It is an accomplishment for me though, and I’m gladly noticing that it might actually be possible to lead a fulfilling life sans bagels.
Eating plain yogurt and berries for breakfast every morning, salads for lunch, and an omelet or salad for dinner has worked out well for me. On days when I’ve been hungry in between meals, I’ve just munched on a handful of cashews or almonds. I have to say that I’m feelin’ good! There’s no way I’ve lost any weight during this short time period, but I’m definitely feeling a lot less bloated already.
I have one confession to make though. The thing is, I got awfully close to cheating last night. I was babysitting this sweet 4-year-old whose mom always leaves me with a delicious dinner. Before heading out, she told me that there was fresh bread and croissants (DERP!) waiting for me in the kitchen in case I was hungry. After putting the girl to bed, I approached the bag of croissants that was lying on the counter. “I’m just gonna take a look,” I told myself as I reached my hand out to grab the bag. But I stopped myself mid-way since I’m smart enough to realize there’s no way to just “look” at a croissant and leave it at that.
All in all, the first week has went really well. But the true challenge still lies ahead of me. Weekends tend to result in some pretty serious shame-eating for my part, and my friend’s birthday party happens to be tomorrow. No cake for me this time!
