Summer Blockbuster Report 2012
The summer movie season’s not quite over with The Expendables 2, Cosmopolis, Lawless, and a couple others in the coming weeks, but we’re far enough in to start recapping just how successful the most anticipated films fared. Now there’s a bit of a debate as to when the summer movie season starts. Many argue it’s the first weekend in May, others that it’s the first weekend in June, and me, I go by when the first giant blockbuster is scheduled to come out. And it ain’t hard to tell what the first giant blockbuster is. Now let’s take a trip down recent memory lane and see what films blockbusted and which just busted!
Obviously, this list was built around hype. There are definitely honorable mentions to be made. Beasts of the Southern Wild became the most critically and fan adored indie hit. Ruby Sparks featuring real-life item Paul Dano and Zoey Kazaan surprisingly delivered on its promising buzz and is in the process of charming (albeit the charm is waning) audiences. But overall, these were the films that we built our summer movie experience around. How did they deliver for you?
