Most people lose all power for more than 24 hours when a hurricane hits. Most of these would be hard or impossible in the dark (hurricane shutters mean no daylight either)

Have you been through a hurricane? When you're worrying about your roof flying off, your nails and iPod are the last things on your mind. My mother, sister, and I had to evacuate during Frances in 2004, and yes, we played video games at my uncle's house inland, but it was when the generator was on, and sporadic because a generator can't support as many household activities as electric power can. It's good for cooking and taking showers, but that's pretty much it.
