On Being In A Fantasy Football League

I’ve never been into fantasy football because well, it’s designed for the NFL which is not my thing. Now, I love my Atlanta Falcons having grown up a fan, but college football is so much better. College games are just way more awesome. Every pro game I’ve been to was fun, but pro grames don’t compare to being in a college stadium. And I mean, I graduated from Alabama. There is absolutely nothing like cheering on your college team whether you have a ton of national championships under your belt or not. Even though I’m out of school, I still watch the Tide roll every Saturday just from the comforts of the Ainsworth instead of Bryant-Denny. Still totally amazing.

But I’m also having to watch NFL games on a regular basis because I’m in a league. I work with seven dudes and one other girl. Our office is a frat house which is the most fun ever, but when you’re surrounded by dudes you have to do dude-like things. Like join the league. I wasn’t going to do it, but one of my bosses essentially said that I wouldn’t be any good and the rest of the guys were talking big game. So naturally, I had to join.

Our draft was a little intense and filled with lots of cursing and yelling at each other from across the office-space. I came out with a decent team, although several of my players are sucking so they’re about to get dropped hard. To girls who don’t understand fantasy football: it’s not that complicated. You could pick random players and still do alright. You just have to pay attention. I made the grave mistake of not rearranging my roster this week because I was super busy and forgot.

Anything can happen during the season, so you have to be on your toes and keep track of what’s going on. I’ve got the app on my phone and look ahead to see how my opponents’ are stacking up. Girls, I’m telling you that you can get involved in leagues and shut up your boyfriends, their dumb friends, and your guy friends. It’s totally possible. Unfortunately I find myself caring about the NFL more than I would like to admit, but I’ll tell you one thing: I’m not choosing Giants or Jets. I’m a Falcons fan and bless your heart if you think I’m giving up everything that’s southern about me.
