In honor of the 8th season premiere for the sit-com that proved you could still have a successful sit-com on network television, “How I Met Your Mother,” I wanted to do a Dude’s List based on one of the greatest concepts the show has put forth. In every relationship, one person is the reacher, one who is dating above their level of attractiveness, and one person is the settler…which is a bit more self-explanatory.

In light of this milestone achievement to the show’s many other fantastic additions to our cultural landscape (“legendary,” “suit up,” John Lithgow as your father, crazy vs. hot scale, the bro code [available on all major online shopping outlets], Barney Stinson, the Naked Man, and Cobie Smoulders) here’s a Dude’s List of a 13 celebrity couples where he’s reaching and she’s settling…

      I find this article funny because as a woman, I myself and plenty of my girlfriends find some of these guys really attractive, those two being John Krasinski and Jason Segel. They're not your standard, attractive guy, they're more regular Joe with a tad of cute. The thing is, personality DOES play a big factor I think, and either way, I'd definitely jump on either Krasinski and Segel. Orlando Bloom isn't so bad either.

      Have always found Aniston's face to be just an average pretty girl(except her hair and waistline),never understood the fuss over her ,think she just got super-lucky w/ the fame of "Friends" and I'm so happy to finally hear someone else agree.
      This article is very dumb! J Theroux looks really good except in photo above.

      This just goes to show that women look for what's inside a man (or, in Portia case, woman) more than outside. Sweet, right? Except for Jason Segel. What he looks like on the, ahem, outside may have a bit more to do with it in his case.

      When Phoebe Cates met Kevin Kline, he was 40ish and one of the top actors in the world, and super cute. She was young and obviously quite mature. It's great that they've stayed together.

      What a stupid list. You seem to be naming random couples and saying that they should not be together. Yet most of those couples are made up of 2 very successful in their fields. So I am not sure how that qualifies as he is reaching and she is settling. Prince William & Kate Middleton, how is she reaching! He is the future king of Great Britain. She is attractive but she is no extraordinary.Maybe with Sean Penn and Scarlett Johansson it is a bit creepy. Yeah Kevin Kline is a lot older then Phoebe Cates, but they have been together for ever. I do not understand how Jennifer Connelly is settling for a pretty successful movie star who probably makes a decent living. This is a horrible list.

      Agree. Kevin Kline is an Oscar and Tony Award winner. How is she settling and he reaching? Being older does not make it him reaching. I think it is the other way round personally.
