Make the Most of Your Small Space with PBdorm! [Giveaway]

Moving your life into a dorm room sized space can be a stressful experience, as we all know. But no one ever really talks about the post-move-in phase. After classes have started and you’ve accumulated more free t-shirts than you know what to do with, your once organized small space starts looking more like the aftermath of an earthquake. As a student living in New York City where dorm space is especially tight, I’ve tried (and failed) to embrace the “less is more” mentality. Guys, it’s just really hard to say no to all the freebies being handed to me as I walk through campus!

Luckily, I’ve been working with PBdorm — the ultimate go-to for any student looking to keep their small space as tidy and chic as possible — to rehab my messy room. Take a look at the before and after photos below (don’t judge me) to see how I got rid of the clutter. Plus, PBdorm will be giving one fabulous CollegeCandy reader the opportunity to win all these items!

As I said above, PBdorm wants to give your small space a makeover, so these handy organizers can all be yours! In the comments below, share with us your best tip for staying organized. On Friday, November 9th we’ll pick a winner! Be sure to comment via your active email address so we can contact you if you’ve won!

I use a over the door shoe holder to organize all of my scarfs. As the weather gets colder, I find myself wearing scarfs more and more. Having them visable and organized helps me grab one to match my outfit on chilly mornings as I head out the door for class.

  2. Elena says:

I love necklaces so naturally I have a ton! I have quite a few jewelry boxes, but they always tens to get tangled. Instead I use a cork board and hang them off of thumbtacks as accent marks for pictures. It adds decoration to the room while allowing them to be easily accessible.

  3. Alex says:

My over-the-door shoe organizer holds all of my toiletries and similar products so they are easy to access and aren’t all over my dresser or out in the open! It’s convenient and my space isn’t covered in various bottles of hair products or lotions!

  4. Sydney says:

Maximizing under the bed storage space has been my best way to stay organized. I make sure to use bed risers and totes to keep everything together and out of sight!

  5. steph says:

Color Coding- I do it for drawers, notebooks, anything I can to keep things grouped together and organized.

  6. Hannah says:

There are endless amounts of ways to keep all your belongings organized in a college dorm. But my most valued organizational tool is definitely my dry and erase board calendar that's hung on my wall. It not only keeps my schedule organized, but there is also a space for notes where I write To Do's, such as do laundry, call advising, and simple things like that. It's not only helpful in organization but it can make a super cute decoration too because you can get them in all sorts of designs and colors.

  7. Carson says:

Getting bins!! That is one thing that really helped me to become organized. If everyting has a specific bin to go in it's very easy to remember where things go. Even if the bins themselves get a bit messy I still know that I'll find exactly what I need somewhere in that bin insted of having to run around my room looking for that item. Also if you get a plastic bin it can be very fun to decorate with puffy paint!

  8. Ashley says:

Believe it or not, the best organizational tool for a small space are crates! I spray paint them fun colors and turn them on their sides and stack to make a storage unit. I put textbooks, makeup, sweatshirts, and picture frames in each. It's a fun spin to keep my odds and ends in one space, without taking over my room. Plus side: they're cheap, easy to move, and no assembly required!

  9. Sara says:

Furniture such as bookshelves can be cheap to buy and work great for storage and display purposes. Under-the-bed storage is key. Also, in terms of little things like hair accessories, jewellery, etc. I always keep little bins (or you could use boxes if you'd like) in which I place different items in each bin to stay organized.

  10. Bianca says:

i stay organized by putting away everything the second i'm done using it!

  11. edgeofjade says:

I stay organized by using multipurpose box chairs. this way, I can store stuff inside the boxes and use it as a chair. I also use a shoe/bag organizer to keep them organized.

  12. Meg says:

My best tip for staying organized is to pick one area to tidy/reorganize a day. In a dorm, there can only be so many areas so everything gets done every week or so ;) Plus its a fun way to be productive AND take a break for that paper you need to write!

  13. Laura says:

I think one of the best ways to stay organized is to make it fun! I know I am more inclined to use organizers, boxes, and storage containers when they are in bright colors and fun designs! Also, especially in the dorms and small apartment spaces, it is important to make use of vertical space. I hang whatever I can because there is just so little floor space.

  14. Rebecca says:

organize by having fun colors and showing off you stuff like necklaces and scarves

  15. colleen boudreau says:

Put things away right away in their designated places.

  16. Liz says:

I use the closet hanger shoe organizers for t shirts, jeans, and other clothes that don’t need to be hung up. It doesn’t take up too much room and doubles the amount of clothing I can keep in my closet!

  17. Stephanie says:

My best tip for staying organized is stacking! Stacking is one of the more efficient ways to store your stuff because it minimizes the area being taken up.

  18. Julie says:

my son puts away everything he uses instead of letting it pile up-a good idea especially when you share a house with 5 other guys :)

    1. Julie says:

don't know why my comment showed up twice sorry

  19. Alyssa says:

Use multi-purpose items. For example, a decorative box to hold pencils or spare change, a bedside table with drawers to stash your phone charger, books and as a place to set your alarm clock, lamp, phone or a tall bed with plenty of under the bed storage for those items you don't use frequently. Having a place for everything helps keep your room organized and clutter-free!

  20. mell says:

Utilize under bed storage and tidy up your space at least twice a week.

  21. I keep all of my stuff in separate bins. The out of season bins are under my bed. My make up is in one bin, my blow drier, curlers etc in another, headbands in another, bracelets in another etc. To make extra use of your bed you can bunk them or get a loft. Here at CMU we can also flip our beds upside down which gives us more storage space in between; we also stack our desks if we don't use them.

  22. Sam Burgundy says:

It's all about proper storage and having a sense of keeping organized. Never underestimate how useful a few bins and boxes can be.
