Lesbians Will Marry Your Boyfriend [Sex in the News]

Hey, people against marriage equality! Gay men and women have a new idea. Instead of fighting to be able to get married to the person they love and have the same rights as heterosexual couples, they’re going to join you. Yes, gay men will marry your girlfriends and gay women will marry your boyfriends. Problem solved.

Okay – so maybe this isn’t a real campaign. That uses a lot of stereotypes. But the suggestion is still there. Why, on earth do heterosexual people care so much about keeping marriage between a man and a woman?

As more states vote on same sex marriage and the Supreme Court rules on Proposition 8, you have to wonder. What are people hanging onto? I’ve heard arguments against same sex marriage. While traveling through a country where it’s illegal to be gay, I had someone tell me that if it was okay for two men to get married, no man would ever want to marry me. Living in Canada where same sex marriage was passed over seven years ago, I know this isn’t the case. There are still men and women getting married.

Lesbians don’t really want to marry your boyfriends, but they could. I’m sure they’d rather be marrying their own partners, so they can have all the rights that a heterosexual couple has, and it seems time that Prop 8 is ruled unconstitutional and the fight for gay marriage continues.
