Eight-Year-Old Plans to Donate 100 Dolls to Hospital
If you think you are generous, you have got to see this girl. Kailey Ray is an eight-year-old who is committed to charity work. Although she is very young, she is able to understand that there are children who aren’t as fortunate as her. The precocious girl has come up with a plan to donate 100 American Girl dolls to the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in order to help lift their spirits. The dolls, which are pretty expensive ($100-$200), are paid for with the money she earns through her own business, which consists of selling items she knits with her grandmother.
The Huffington Post reports:
“I love my American Girl dolls,” Kailey told WLWT, “So I thought that they would love theirs as much as I love mine.” Kailey is well on her way to reaching her goal of giving away 100 dolls. She donated 14 last year and handed over 30 dolls at the Children’s Hospital on Wednesday, according to the news source. “She’s 8 and she grasps concepts pretty fast to know there are a lot of kids out there who are unfortunate,” David Ray, Kailey’s dad, told Fox 19. “She’s done so much to help somebody else. I’m immensely proud of her.”
At eight years, understanding the importance of sharing and giving to others is a great lesson. Nevertheless, Kailey goes above and beyond to ensure that patients in the children’s hospital are comfortable. What better way to get into the holiday spirit than this? I think her story is a great reminder that it’s giving not receiving that matters. Sometimes young children can teach us adults a thing or two about kindness.
