Happy Hannukah to those who observe the holiday! Does it look like winter where you are? Because it sure does NOT in New York City. I never thought I’d be wishing for colder weather, but it’s totally happening. It’s December. There is supposed to be snow on the ground! Where is my winter wonderland?! Anyway, here are the week’s top stories.

At Home

In a horrible and terrifying tragedy, a man was pushed onto the subway tracks in Midtown Manhattan and killed when the train came into the station. The driver saw the man on the tracks, but it was too late to stop the train in time. A freelance photographer who was in the station took a picture of the incident and the New York Post put the image of the man about to be crushed on its front cover. There’s a huge debate going on about whether or not the Post should have published the picture.

The World

U.S. drone strikes in Pakistan are said to have killed two Al-Qaeda commanders.

Sporty

In this year’s Army-Navy football showdown, Navy came out on top in the classic game.

Hot on the Web

John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John recently reunited to make a holiday song together. If you think this sounds like a return the magic of their Grease days, you would be wrong. The video looks like a middle schooler’s class project, and it’s way awkward. So – is it so bad it’s good, or just really, really bad? You be the judge.

Garnet is a student at Columbia University in New York City. She is “that person” who starts dancing at a party when everyone else is standing around, and if there were a Facebook stalking Olympics, she would be a gold medalist. She also loves cheesy 90s music, and almost died of happiness when Vanilla Ice retweeted her. Once. Follow her on Twitter @garnethenderson.
