The Time I Got in An Argument With A CollegeCandy Commenter

Hi. I’m Molly and I have a problem. It’s a problem that has plagued me my entire life, and it’s this: I can’t keep my mouth shut. I like to think of myself as a more realistic kind of super hero. I stand up for those who can not stand up for themselves and, more often than not, I stand up for myself.

As you may or may not know, I wrote an article a little while back called “10 Annoying Things Guys Do in Bed” and for some reason people freaking hated it. I’m not here to defend the whole article because I still think it’s funny, but to prove I’m not a cold-hearted b*tch, I wrote “12 Amazing Things Guys Do In Bed”. Well, commenter “Billie Jean” had a major problem with my article. And yes, it took everything in me not to make some creepy Micheal Jackson joke when replying to his comments condemning me for voicing an opinion as a joke.

Here are the things you need to know about “Billie Jean”. He is commenting anonymously, using a fake name, and he is a man. While we at CollegeCandy are all for diversity, I can’t help but wonder what a man is doing on a website called CollegeCandy leaving hateful comments for girls who just wanna have fun. It could be that he stumbled here from one of our partner sites, however, obviously his opinion isn’t going to represent the majority on a website written by and for college girls. He has so clearly taken offense to an article that wasn’t targeted at him in the first place, and I will never understand why people get so mad about things on the internet. I mean, seriously, if it annoyed you, just close out of the page, right?

But that’s not the point. Fellow women and feminists everywhere, my point to him was that my article about the things boys do that bother me in bed was all in jest.

This was one of his many responses (can be seen nested under the top comment on the 10 Most Annoying Things post):

My response? WHAT THE HELL BRO. Seriously. Maybe women are “so good in the kitchen” because we can take the heat? Perhaps you need to take that chip off your shoulder and go cry to someone else. I don’t know why you are so offended, and feel the need to cut women down. Slut shaming and blatant sexism are not cool and I hope you live a very fulfilled life alone.

Molly, I could not be more with you on this one! After interacting with rude and completely dense commenters on several of my posts, I definitely was annoyed to see the argument you got into with this guy. They can completely twist your words and get stuff out of your posts that you aren't even CLOSE to what you wrote. CollegeCandy is a fun site, but sometimes people can seriously read wayyyy too much into things. You wrote a hilarious article and someone with an Internet connection and a poor sense of humor decided to rip on it. There's a clear reason you get to blog for an awesome website called CollegeCandy and this guy is anonymous. Get a life people!

I LOVE YOU KATIE! Thanks! Yeah, I mean, I understand some of it, especially if I say something wrong or whatever, but this was to the point where I was like, I need to say something. We're lucky ladies!

Don't take it so seriously. Most of what people write are things they would be too scared to say to your face in real life. Some are just trolls trolling around the Internet and maybe they even get a laugh out of making you mad. Just ignore, there's absolutely nothing better to do. I've seen thousand of nasty comments that have got on my nerves, I see negative people commenting on EVERY single article on the Internet, so I just learned to brush it off, otherwise my patience and my self-esteem would be destroyed. I prefer to care about real people and not crazy cowards who say what they want because they get to hide behind a computer.. Peace and loveā¤

Preach, girl! Commenters go crazy, especially the anonymous ones. I would love to run into some of my trolls in real life. We put a face and name on what we say because dammit this is what we do. You're hilarious and amazing, and I LOVE YOU.

      1. Molly - UNL says:

I AM FEELING SO MANY WARM FUZZIES! I feel like if we ran into these people in real life, they would be terrified! You're amazing, I LOVE YOU TOO!!

Whenever I run into someone like that I try to keep in mind that they're probably 12 years old (physically or mentally, take your pick) and frustrated at being "friendzoned" by their best friend because they've never made a move…

      I feel honored.

You can certainly see your expertise within the paintings you write. The world hopes for more passionate writers such as you who aren’t afraid to mention how they believe. At all times follow your heart.
