I remember reading The Giver and The Martian Chronicles for school and being blown away by how good the stories were and by how disturbing they were. The Giver takes the cake for me in terms of dystopian futures. I couldn’t believe they would let us read something so sinister in school. The Green Ribbon, freaks me out until this day. “And then Jenny’s head fell off . . . ” I remember gasping on the school bus home. Did you have to read any of these mega creepy books when you were growing up?
