The internet was all a buzz this morning because it was rumored that Justin Timberlake was going to drop an inevitably banging track featuring Jay-Z and Beyonce. J.T. has not released an album in 10 years. I guess he finally realized he wasn’t going to that Academy Award. FutureSex/LoveSounds was pretty flawless. When we heard J.T. would pop and lock back into his roots we were pretty stoked. It all started when he Tweeted, “Thursday, January 10th, 2013 at 9:01 am PST…”
Today, we sat in front of our computers at 9:00 am PST (12PM here in NYC) refreshing Twitter. A link at 12:01! Oh, what could this be? It’s a video! OMGOMGOMG! There’s J.T. , wearing a tacky 2001 fedora hat – classic – he’s walking. He’s talking. Oh gosh, he’s talking. Talking about his career, his passion, his need to be a perfectionist, he isn’t going to put out anything he doesn’t love, it’s been ten years, blah, blah. Get to the singing already. He enters the recording studio. He puts headphones on. He speaks into the mic. And then . . .
In case you were hoping for a taste of new music, Willow Smith, the 12-year-old wunderkind has released a new epic ballad that samples Radiohead’s “Codex.”
Girl, I know puberty is difficult. With lyrics like, “They wanna puncture me and then wonder why I bleed,” and “I tried to be sugar and spice, but I’m melancholy and can’t do anything right,” we can’t help but reminiscence about the necessary, yet trying angst of being a teen. Nevertheless, some little girls, like Willow, are just cooler than any of us will ever be in our twenties or the years to follow.
