If you’re like me, you really have a very vague idea of what the Sundance Film Festival is actually like. In my head I pictured a massive amount of hipsters congregating to watch odd films that the average person cannot comprehend, all while taking breaks to toke it up outside and annoy the natives of Park City (while maybe running into a celeb or two). After researching for this list, I’m pretty sure that most of that is still true, but I’ve collected a few tidbits that legitimize the festival’s artistic and social standing a little more (even though I still think the films are a little weird).

Here are ten things you probably didn’t know about the Sundance Film Festival:
