5 End of the World Movies to Watch While the Asteroid Passes Earth Today

Apparently, there is an asteroid flying very close to Earth today. The 2012 DA14 asteroid will come within 17,200 miles of Earth (which is I guess “very close”?), before returning to wherever it came from. Coincidentally, Russia suffered significant damage and injuries this morning when an unrelated meteor passed, causing windows to blow out from the shock and speed of the unexpected visitor. Bottom line: Don’t f*ck with space. (More science-y info here for those wanting to read up on DA14 and watch a livestream of the asteroid.)

So to get you all prepared for this momentous scientific event, we’ve compiled a list of the five best movies featuring asteroids, comets and those little divas called rogue planets that think they can go wherever they want. There is sure to be at least one that fits your fancy for today’s event.
