I must admit that, unlike 100% of Americans, I have not heard Justin Timberlake’s new album The 20/20 Experience in full yet. Although I wasn’t exactly feeling “Mirrors” or “Suit and Tie,” they felt too earnest, medium tempo and just weren’t sonically compelling enough for me.

However, I am liking this new Robin Thicke video and song, “Blurred Lines,” featuring T.I. and Pharrell. The song is sort of goofy, fun and up beat. It’s simple and although it doesn’t have the banging beats we’ve grown accustomed to hearing in modern pop, I find it rather charming. I have kind of always found Robin Thicke rather charming. He doesn’t take himself too seriously and his father was the dad on Growing Pains. His music may not be as artistically substantial as Justin Timberlake’s, he may not be able to dance but his music always has a certain simplicity and swagger to it. It’s like Justin Timberlake plus a Long Island Iced  Tea on the beach, you know?

The music video for “Blurred Lines” is also great. Let’s be honest, they didn’t have the biggest budget but it’s flirty, GIFable and has some interesting imagery. I mean, half the video is a hashtag (#THICKE) of his name, a toy race car drives down a model’s butt, there’s a giant sign that reads, “ROBIN THICKE HAS A BIG D” and T.I.’s footwork is flawless. Check it out below.
