Cosmic Candy: May 6 – May 12

We are pleased to announce that we’ve teamed up with one of our favorite astrologists (and talented yoga pro), Chani Nicholas, to bring you weekly horoscope readings. Check back each Monday to see what’s in the stars for your week!
Aries and Aries Rising- Unless you had an amazing role model or mentor that brought you out into the community and taught you about how to navigate life (some may call this a father figure), then you most likely have some false notions about your value in the world. If what you see when you look in the mirror pales in comparison with your greatest potential, than I have some homework for you. Please examine, question and hold any false beliefs you detect accountable for the damage they do. There is no way, save a great amount of grace, that we can ever blossom into the people we need to become if we don’t first change how we think about our worth. Take a moment this week, preferably Wednesday and Thursday, to play around with the notion that at your core you feel like you are a good person worthy of love, success and abundance. Act as if you value everything about yourself- your wisdom, your work ethic, your sensitivity, your creativity, your unique contribution to this world. Your creative capacities hold the answers to all of your problems, don’t pray for things- pray for the courage and the intelligence to create what you need.
Taurus and Taurus Rising- Not to be overly dramatic about it, but this year is a big one for you and this week like an exclamation point on the end of that sentence. What is it you have wanted to start? How are your current actions aligned with whom you are growing yourself into? This moment is about maintaining your integrity; the choices you make now have a ripple effect on the rest of your life. It’s tricky for many of us to remain in integrity because our egos love to feel celebrated, congratulated and applauded-but that doesn’t always mean that we are on the right track for our soul’s interest and needs. In this kind of astrological weather I always suggest taking a little time “out”, like a moratorium from the opinions and preferences of others. When we step out of the cacophony of our culture, we give ourselves a chance to remember what our actual purpose is.
Gemini and Gemini Rising- When I look at your chart I get the image of you having a giant “reset” button at your fingertips. This week holds a very potent potential shift for you and I would like you to pay close attention to all the ways in which you talk to yourself, notice what messages are on repeat. In fact I would go so far as to say that your main dialogues should be with yourself (secretly of course, no need to worry friends and family). It’s time for you to understand the subtle and obvious ways that you misinterpret yourself and your life and take action by reinterpreting the negative story lines you have running rampant in your head. How do the worlds attitudes influence your own and how does this change your story? Spend some time doing the things that you love to do, especially on Wednesday and Thursday, and get in touch with some joy, try to air yourself out if you’ve been feeling stagnant. I’d like you take advantage of the rare opportunity you have right now to clean out the back room of your mind and make space for images of yourself that are much more life affirming than what may have been haunting you so far.
Cancer and Cancer Rising- It’s time for you to show up for life in ways that most likely terrify you. If “oh not me, they do that but I couldn’t possibly take up that much space.” is a common mantra in your head that you adhere to, then this week will be either extremely difficult or a missed opportunity, neither of which sound like a good idea to me. What you may not understand, dear Cancer, what so many of us may fail to realize, is that the space around us is our to take up and it’s important that we do. We don’t want to do this in a way that silences others, or in an unconscious way obliterates anothers experience, but in a way that “outs” us to the rest of our community. It’s important that we learn how to express ourselves, our desires and our dreams clearly to the outside world. It’s time for you to lay your cards on the table and give us what you’ve got to give. If you hold back now, chances are it will take so much longer to reach the potential that is yours to discover in this lifetime.
Leo and Leo Rising- There are times where you just have to go all out and let the world know who you are, how you feel and most importantly, what you want. Some small or large action this week will set a pattern in motion that will effect your career or future career for possibly years to come. I don’t mean this to sound like a superstitious omen; I want you to take advantage of the power that is available to you so that you can consciously make an impact on your world. The choices you make this week also influence how the world sees you and I want you to remember that you have some power over this, what is the impression that you are going for? The new moon eclipse this Thursday solidifies you in the public domain somehow so make sure that your footing is solid and that you are on the path that you want to be on. I suggest being on the lookout for fiery conversations (especially earlier in the week) and stay out of them at all costs. There may be someone who you feel is talking trash about you, but believe me, you will look all the more sane if you refuse to engage with the drama. Your best bet is to be the peacemaker at all costs and find a very diplomatic way of slipping in your truth. Looked at another way this is the week for you to say what you need to say but with as much cool, calm and steadiness as possible.
Virgo and Virgo Rising- Meaning. You are in a process of uncovering what has meaning for you. The body doesn’t lie and for your tribe it’s especially important that you listen to its responses to philosophies, doctrines and dominant ideologies. There is a teaching in Judaism that God is waiting for us to redeem the world, we are taught that we are needed by God, that it wants to be in partnership with us. Whether or not this statement rings true for you is not the point. The point is that I want you to really think about what the guiding myth, religion or sentiment in your life is? What code do you live by? I recently ran into one of the children I work with and she handed me a flier for an organization that she is starting, it’s aptly entitled, “Make A Difference!” It’s an organization that helps children who want to make a difference come together to figure out how they can. She’s 9. When she was telling me about it I felt like I was listening to the next President of The United States. She’s clear, passionate and knows exactly what holds meaning for her- making a difference in the world. This Thursday is a new moon and an eclipse and it’s happening in a part of your chart that holds the big questions; why am I here? What is truth? What holds value in my life? It could also have you wanting to roam, wander and seek. Do so, but keep in mind your fundamental questions; what about this is meaningful and how can I use it to serve others?
Libra and Libra Rising- While looking at your chart a couple of things occur to me, the first is that it’s really important for you to remember the invisible elements of life, all the ways in which everything we do makes an impact on the larger picture including our thoughts, intentions and all the things we do when no one is watching. Secondly, I want you to consider what it is you need to let go of. Your chart is asking for some sort of release, some symbolic death (but fear not! it’s followed by regeneration) and only you know what that could be. However, I don’t want you to do this haphazardly as it’s too easy to fool ourselves. It’s near impossible for our egos to let go of anything that protects them (like fame, glory, success, adoration); the ego will only sacrifice the very things that won’t expose it (old shoes, people that push it’s buttons, work that is too challenging). Take a look to see if what you are holding onto could actually be blocking something else that is much better suited to you. How could you trust life a little more and try to control everything a little less? What can you let go of and let God/dess/life handle from here?
Scorpio and Scorpio Rising- In my previous incarnation as a young actress I had this intense, eccentric and harsh acting teacher from NYC that had too many cats and no lint brush. She was completely neurotic, totally dramatic and she would often stop us mid scene to scream, “What’s your motivation in this scene??!!” Without letting us answer she’d follow with a very loud, “LOVE! Love is your only motivation! Our motivation for everything in life is LOVE!” She had in interesting way of delivering the meesage, but I think I have to agree with her. If we really knew how much we try to manipulate others into loving, accepting and applauding us we would probably be horrified (though it seems easy enough to spot these days via social networking self-congratulatory speak). What your chart is suggesting is that there are many ways to see yourself reflected in the eyes of another and there are even more ways to translate the behaviors of those around you. My question, however, is; why are you doing the things you are doing? Would you do them if you knew that without a shadow of a doubt that you where worthy of being loved exactly as you are?
Sagittarius and Sagittarius Rising- Do only good things this week. Ok, do mostly good things this week. And every time you do a “good deed” I want you to do it anonymously and never, ever tell anyone about it. Don’t even allude to it on facebook, twitter or instagram. There is a tremendous amount of wisdom that we have all but completely forgotten about and it’s hidden inside of a little thing called humility. This week you can expericnce this power by keeping things of this nature to yourself. This is counter-intuitive to the self-congratulatory exclamations we are taught to make to the world on an hourly bases, we shouldn’t be so quick to congratulate yourselves. What if spirituality is about being a servant, a servant that gets no press, no recognition (save that from the universe) no praise, no book deal, no award and no TV show. Move beyond your ego’s desire for fame and come into a greater desire- the desire to take care of each other while no one is watching, which is when it really counts.
Capricorn and Capricorn Rising- There is a genius to the simplicity that your sign is famous for. Right now I would like you to utilize that skill because your chart is simply teeming with possibilities for self-recreating. It’s a tremendously juicy time and one that may be asking a lot from you in terms of defining yourself against the backdrop of the world. I wouldn’t go for anything that is too complex in it’s presentation right now (keep the paradox for your private life), the world at large isn’t so adept at depth these days anyway. I’m not suggesting that you dumb anything down, quite the contrary actually; I am suggesting that you convey a deep message in a very clear on concise way. No frills and no corners cut.
Aquarius and Aquarius Rising- Do you have a place of refuge? It’s important that you have somewhere you can just be, somewhere you can let your guard down. Is there some place where you can go where no one will bother you, at least for some extended period of time? Or is there a place that you can go where you feel known, understood and part of a tribe? If that isn’t possible than I suggest you carve out a little space for yourself, physically, a log bath, a hike or a day at the museum would work-anything that brings you back into your center. I say this because it’s becoming increasingly important for you to have an experience of your inner life. However this manifests for you, I’d say that this week is about seeking comfort, nourishment and getting back to your roots in some way so that you may be replenished for the next leg of your journey. We have to know what we have to come home to in order to venture bravely into the great unknown.
Pisces and Pisces Rising- There is a beautiful law in Judaism that states we must reserve a corner of our garden for folks that are hungry. The law even goes as far as to say that if we drop something while harvesting our crops than that should also be left for those that need it. This is in reference to the fact that we can’t actually own the land because it doesn’t belong to us, we are merely taking care of it. This is the kind of wisdom that is inherent to Pisces even though you may have a reputation for being a little less than grounded. However, your street smarts are one of your finer, if little-known, talents. If you feel removed from that kind of knowledge lately then do what ever you need to in order to wake it up. Listen to your gut, your instincts and your pinky toe if that’s where you get the information. Listen intently to the wisdom of your body this week, it will never steer you wrong.
