Obama opens up about Trayvon Martin case and provides some real talk about the state of race in the United States. The President said, “I think it’s important to recognize that the African American community is looking at this issue through a set of experiences and a history that—that doesn’t go away. There are very few African American men in this country who haven’t had the experience of being followed when they were shopping in a department store. That includes me.”
Has any President post-Civil Rights been so blunt about the African American experience? He continued, “We need to ask whether we are making African American young men feel part of this society. Black boys need more encouragement.”
