Miley Cyrus is covering the October issue of Harper’s Bazaar and she is looking good. I always like Miley Cyrus interviews because I never know what I am going to get: either she will say something annoying that I’ll want to tell you all about or she’ll say something really clever that I’ll want to tell you all about. This interview was an excellent Miley interview because it provided both of those things.

When I first got my copy of Harper’s I was pretty pissed because I could not find the Miley spread. I thought: OMG they put her on the cover and there isn’t even a piece on her, what an evil marketing trick! Then after browsing for 15 minutes, I found the piece, “Miley Goes Bang” sitting discretely on page 300! Why is it way back there, no one is going to find the cover piece among the 9,000,000 advertisements for shit they can’t afford to buy. Anyway, the interview by Derek Blasberg turned out to be pretty good. Here’s what I learned about Miley.

On her new found rebellion.

“I was an adult when I was supposed to be a kid. So now I’m an adult acting like a kid.”

Her advice for Justin Bieber.

“I’m not saying you need to take a break because you’re crazy. I’m saying you need to take a break so you can be crazy, and people aren’t going to judge you. You’re going to do dumb stuff from here on out. But do it in your own time. Do it safely. You can afford to protect yourself and still have fun.”

On celebrities who get arrested for DUIs.

“Why don’t they just get a driver?”

On changing her musical direction.

“I told my label: ‘This is the first time I’m showing you what I’m bringing to the table as an artist. If this goes wrong, you never have to trust me again. I’ll be your puppet. But if I’m right, then you know I’m onto something.”

On getting super turnt? (I still don’t know what that means.)

“There is no girl out there speaking on behalf of the country girls who are turnt up.”

On being used to the spotlight.

“My parents always had money, and I’ve always been around this industry, so I didn’t have my mind blown or become obsessed with being famous.”

On growing up with money.

“When I was growing up, I didn’t even notice that I started making all this money. There’s something about new money that makes people change. But I never did not have [money]. So when I got it, I didn’t become obsessed with having it.”

All and all I would say Miley is pretty self aware even if she is a bit immature about somethings. If being overexposed doesn’t ruin her sensibilities I think she’ll be a levelheaded person when she is like thirty years old which is more than I can say about most child stars who never leave the spotlight.
