We are pleased to announce that we’ve teamed up with one of our favorite astrologists (and talented yoga pro), Chani Nicholas, to bring you weekly horoscope readings. Check back each Monday to see what’s in the stars for your week!
Aries And Aries Rising- Commitment inevitably leads to transformation, even if we don’t end up living “happily ever after”. Relationships don’t have to last in order for them to be worthy of our love, care and time, but if we never commit we’ll never know the potential in each partnership. Friday’s new Moon marks a halfway point in your solar year and you can use this marker to look back at your birthday and see what it is you have been molding from the clay of this year. Every month we have a new Moon in a different part of our chart or different domain of our life, therefore monthly we have the opportunity to consciously begin something new and watch it grow over the year. As I said before, you’re halfway through the cycle – meaning that we’ve come to the seventh house of relationships; we start at the first house of Me and half way through the year we end up at the seventh house where we meet You. We spoke a lot last week about the relationships issues you are grappling with, and this is still the theme of the week. An important factor to keep in mind is that with every new Moon we get to press the refresh button before we begin again, and it’s really important to give ourselves permission to have a second chance. Taking a proverbial five-minute break this week could help you tremendously. When in doubt, do nothing. It is important that you begin this part of your year with a conscious awareness about the types of relationships that you want to be involved in. By the looks of it, you’re hankering for something much more real, raw, fair and equitable. This is a shocking new Moon, it brings with it a lot of disturbance and a lot of interruption, so if feathers get ruffled in your relationships don’t freak. On a deeper level, this moon aims to interrupt the family dynamics that both you and your partner tend to play out — and I don’t mean this as only your romantic partners, every partner that you feel intimate with. A new Moon the seventh houses are also an event that brings you out into the world and re-connects you to others. This can be sweet because you get to see what you’re really good at and what you are still struggling with as other people receive your work and mirror back to you the parts that are strong and healthy and functioning. To be witnessed is a gift, so please take it in when it comes.
Taurus and Taurus Rising- Love is the only vitamin you need. We can have food, water, clothing and shelter, but without love our entire physical system is weakened. Love opens us up and love makes us want to open up. Love makes us strong in ways that nothing else can, love is a protective covering over every cell, every organ and every fiber of our being. Love promotes a healthy immune system so that we know what to fight off and what to let in. We can’t be open and at the same time protect ourselves from that which we fear; we cannot be opened and closed at the same time. When we feel that our survival is threatened our physiological state will actually shut down to protect itself. Obviously at times in our life this is for very good reason, for you, this month is asking you to look at the ways in which you shut down both emotionally and therefore physically and see if there isn’t room for you to crack open even a wee bit. Choose to see all the ways in which you’re safe in your life and really acknowledge where you’re loved, consciously bringing that into your body. I suggest some heart opening yoga exercises with a slow steady attention on your body and your body’s reaction to the thought of opening up. Friday’s new moon is all about your health and beginning routines that aid your well being on the daily.
Gemini and Gemini Rising- Friday’s new Moon is happening in your Fifth House of creativity, fun, self-expression and love affairs, so while I want you to keep your mind on how to create more space for those types of things, I’d like to broaden the conversation a little. The way we interpret life changes the life we are living, the way we perceive the situation changes the situation we are in, and the way we feel about ourselves changes who we are. If nothing else we are highly creative beings, perhaps the most creative beings on the planet — that’s both the good news and the bad. The Fifth House is also a place where we can acutely feel the weight of the responsibility we have to the things we choose to bring into being. If you’re not enjoying what you’ve created, I’d like you to look at the ingredients you are currently using. What could you add and what could you take away? Please don’t be afraid to experiment or to take charge becoming an active participant in the creation of your life. Go mad scientist on that shit.
Cancer And Cancer Rising- It’s not about where you are it’s about where you’re at. When you’re in line with your souls yearning then everything else falls into place so the work is to find out what that could be. The piece you are working on this month is an accurate understanding or a felt experience of feeling at home. Friday’s new Moon is going to happen in your Fourth House of home, family, ancestors and parents so the concern or the energy is here. I don’t think that we ever feel like we’ve fully arrived, it’s dangerous to feel like we have it all together-it’s usually a sign that it’s all about to go to pieces. You’re one quarter of the way through your year (birthday to birthday) so naturally this is a time when you want to be considering how you can further deepen your connection to your inner life. Instead of getting frustrated about what your home, family or inner life is not, focus on what it is and what you want it to become. What can you do every day as a practical ritual to foster feelings of connection and grounding? Things are about to get exciting for you- there’s a lot happening even if it doesn’t seem like that right now- concern yourself with inner success only. If you have a home that you feel like you’re going to stay in for a while, do something to reinvent, nurture and love it. If you’re moving or searching for a home or know that your home situation is a little less than stable, I want you to use this time to investigating your unconscious attitudes about what you deserve from “home”. It’s a great time to uproot issues of dependency that you still have with your parents or authority figures, anything that’s getting in the way of you becoming a fully self-sufficient adult. It simply doesn’t serve you to be waiting around for any person, place or thing to make you happy.
Leo and Leo Rising- What I’d like you to focus on for Friday’s new Moon, which happens in your Third House, are your daily movements. When you connect your deepest desires to your movements you’ll be able to get a lot more accomplished and when you remove the extraneous and unskillful activities that fill your day like the air talking heads of Faux News, you’ll have more energy to do this things you love to do. However, you would serve your life well by taking a moment (especially during the dark of the moon Monday-Thursday) to clear your mind and still your body when possible so that you can reset any negative movement patterns (like going to the fridge when you are bored and then beating yourself up for eating your roommates vegan doughnut). It really doesn’t matter if you want to do the thing you know you need to do, it just matters that you do it. What we do everyday is what we become, so do things that you know will lead you to success. This new Moon is a chance to recommit to having the right movement in your life, once we take the actions that we know we need to take we magically feel better most of the time. There may be points this week where you need to just get up and literally move yourself around, as if you’re shaking yourself out in order to get a new perspective. Have faith that the right movement will lead to a right out outcome and remain unattached from that what that may be.
Virgo and Virgo Rising- In order to appreciate any amount of material abundance, it’s imperative that we know our inner value. Friday’s new Moon is the perfect time to pay special attention to your money and your property, but also to the maintenance of your self-esteem. Here are your new Moon questions: Do you negotiate your power for financial gain? Do you feel like you are selling a part of yourself for material security? It’s important that we know what we are doing when we are doing it. Lying about what we do for money only drains us of our power. Are you fully aware of how you feel about your work when you are doing it? Does any part of it feel like it’s out of integrity? Your new Moon statement is, “I can be in the world, but not of it.” There may be a test this week, you may be asked to sell out, to negotiate your power or to contort your ethical spine. If you can stand up for yourself and refuse compromise your honor code then you will have undergone a spiritual transformation inside of your physical reality and that’s the point of being here. We are here to discover that our power always lies within us and never anywhere else. No person, place or thing is dearer to your well being than your inner worth, instead of selling-out, buy-in.
Libra and Libra Rising- Back in the 80’s Big Daddy Kane had a hit song, Ain’t No Half Steppin and I’d like to suggest it as your theme song for the week. Besides the fact that it’s an awesome ode to 80’s hip-hop, it’s a powerful manifesto of becoming. Libra is a tremendous force than can fall into a tendency of believing that it’s unsure of itself-but I don’t buy it. I’ve seen you half step and I’ve seen you refuse to, and when you are all in you change the dynamics of the game completely. This week’s new Moon in Libra is yours for the taking. It’s no gentle event, but you’ve been fortified over the past 5 years and you’re ready for this and what’s unfolding from now until next spring. The deal is this though: you cannot hold on to any of your old baggage if you really want to make use of all of the work and all the change that you’ve been through. It’s time for you to move in inventive, creative and bold ways. You’re a conduit for quite a lot of energy right now and people may project a tremendous amount onto you. Folks may think that you have more power than they do, that they have more power than you do or that you are the reason for their upset or their good feelings or any array of situations. Simply stand your ground and keep giving everyone’s expectations back to them, empowering them to take control of their own lives. Every new Moon in our sign (happens once a year) is a very personal new beginning for us. Like undergoing an initiation there’s not much use in over-thinking this, but you can focus on being very conscious throughout the process.
Scorpio and Scorpio Rising- Your ending a cycle of new Moons and your birthday-to-birthday year. Next month the new Moon will be a solar eclipse in Scorpio which is going to rock your socks off –think big transformations ala Diana Prince (so cute in those glasses and that uniform) transforming herself into Wonder Woman (so cute in lasso and that uniform) and with that as the background motif let’s stick with this months crazy, sexy, cool chaos. Friday’s new Moon is an opportunity to let go of whatever crap you’ve been carrying around from your year, it’s a psychic spring-cleaning if you will. It aims to break up your old, stodgy and namely unconscious ways of doing things. Our conscious mind is relatively new in terms of the evolution of how we use our brain- we are mostly reflexive in our reactions to life. Awakening and using our conscious mind builds the ability to question why we do what we do, which again is a relatively new way to use this brilliant organ. At this point we operate from the unconscious mind about 95% of the time making it wildly more powerful than our conscious mind. One of the really important things to understand about the unconscious mind is that it’s mostly a tape player that is reciting old memories and patterned beliefs that we took in when we were children. For many that’s a terrifying thought-but it’s also a relief because if we feel disempowered in our lives, we can do something about it and for you this could not be a more than perfect time to do it. I suggest that you spend the week tracking all of your negative beliefs, paying special attention to the ones that arise when you are in a funk. Write them all down so you can see what your internal elevator music is whispering to you all day long. Once you have them written down I’d like you to experiment with ways of flipping them into positive life affirming mantras that you can recite all day long. Change the tapes, change your life.
Sagittarius and Sagittarius Rising- It’s pretty hard to stay in a rut if you surround yourself with the kind of people that you aspire to be. I believe that we are meant to elevate each other, but we can just as easily tear each other down-it’s all a matter of the action we decide to take in any given moment. If you are feeling a little depleted head to your nearest center of inspiration and soak up some of the Good News. Same deal with your friends, make time for those you love so that you can bathe in their beauty and they can do the same. Facetime counts, iChat counts but whenever possible sit in the same room with the folks that can restore your vision to you. When friendships are sacred they are like spiritual Swiss bank accounts: a reservoir that we don’t need to draw from everyday, and often times we forget are there, but they are safety nets we are so happy to have when we find ourselves in a jam. Community worth it’s weight is a community that reflects back to us our divinity, reminds us that we are not alone and we never need to feel lonely. You’ll best serve this new Moon by gathering together the most radical group of loved ones in your Rolodex. I am thinking guerrilla-style, street theater, punk-rock flash mobs, trail blazing activists, gender non-conforming superheroes, iridescent unicorns in drag and any other magical beings that abound around you. Sing each other’s praise and conspire to construct the most fabulous take over and take down of the cold and grumpy ways of old. There’s no need to walk anyone else’s path, your job right now is to find your own and find those among you that are willing to trudge the same uncharted path towards our collective destiny of joyous justice. In short, be with those that encourage you to be wild, to be deep, to be real, to be sincere and to be so brilliant that you render the rest of the world inspired.
Capricorn and Capricorn Rising- (Shhhh, don’t tell the others, but you’re the only sign that I’m giving a quote to this week.) “You’re proper concern alone is the action of duty, not the fruits of the action. Cast then away all desire and fear for the fruits, and perform your duty.” The Bhagavad Gita. You don’t have to know exactly what you want to do in the world, you don’t even have to know what you want to become, and all you need to do is make a concerted effort to go in a direction that is in alignment with your soul. Putting one foot in front of the other, doing the next indicated action is literally the only thing to do, ever. Our minds tend to want to trick us into thinking that we can do 40 things at once, but we cannot. We can only ever do one thing at a time and hopefully with great awareness and compassion for others and ourselves. Friday’s new Moon is happening in your solar 10th house of your career, your public life and your Path. Having integrity in everything we do fuels us in ways big and small, visible and invisible, in whispers and in Hallelujah’s. This week is a perfect time to check your integrity gauge, this is no time to rest on shady laurels-or maybe it is. Chances are you are on blast so if you need a wake up call to get you in line your life is bound to get all up in your grill. Being called out is a blessing, an uncomfortable, uncompromising, necessary blessing for our betterment if we can accept it with humor and grace.
Aquarius and Aquarius Rising- Whether you call it quantum physics, Nature, your dog, your cat, meditation, Buddha, Goddess, God, Universe, Creator, Higher Power, The Infinite or Woody Allen, Friday’s new Moon is your chance for a cosmic booty call (probably not with Woody Allen-but what do I know) or an opportunity to deepen your connection between you and what feeds you spiritually. Be open to not knowing what this mysterious force is but be open to doing whatever you need to do to listen more deeply to it. At this stage in the game the way to advance your life is to serve up a whole new kind of commitment to whatever it is you have faith in. Where doubt is simplistic and can cause stagnation, faith is complex because it requires action. Spiritual practice whether it be breathing, yoga, gardening, cooking, sitting in the sunshine, going to a temple or just appreciating life is an essential component to feeling empowered-without that kind of connection how do we know which way to go? It’s increasingly important that you rely on your inner guidance and not the worlds applause and appreciation. Without a committed partnership to “It” we seem to bump around rudderless from standing ovation to empty house. Spend some time this week meditating on this and see if there aren’t some more inventive ways to place that relationship at the center of every day.
Pisces and Pisces Rising- When we receive incorrect information or when we perceive information inaccurately, it changes how we see others, the world, our lives and ourselves. When generations upon generations hand us down unskillful beliefs and ways of doing things (that, Goddess bless them, may have worked out for them but no longer work for us) it’s our job to make said traits conscious so that we can transform them. Only then can we see the kinds of thoughts that are actually running our lives and creating our experience of our life. Friday’s new Moon could challenge you with the great task of letting go of something that’s holding you back. If you’re open to it there’s looks to be something of a revelation headed your way, if you’re not open to it may appear as a loss. If I were you I would try to keep worrying out of it and your intuition into it-something has to come to an end before something else is going to come into being. The new Moon is happening in your eighth House of partnerships, inheritances and death. The next new moon will happen in your ninth house of expansion, travel and philosophy so it’s important that this month’s moon aids you in letting go of any extra baggage that you’re not going to need on the journey. This is anything but a subtle new Moon, so match the energy by being brave. I believe that the universe wants to fully support our development; we just need to get on board.
