So the Vatican misspelled Jesus, the one word you’d think they’d know how to spell. You’d think this person who has so profoundly influenced their lives might, you know, bear a certain kind of importance to the extent in which they would use spellcheck when crafting a a medal in his honor.
The Vatican misspelled Jesus as Lesus. Now, now, full disclosure the quote they were using was in Latin and in Latin Jesus is spelled “IESVS” but I guess someone put in a lowercase “L” instead of a capital “I” and shit really hit the fan.
According to Gawker, “Produced by the Italian State Mint, the 6,200 gold, silver, and bronze medallions were supposed to be imprinted with Francis’s official motto, “VIDIT ERGO IESVS PVBLICANUM ET QVIA MISERANDO ATQVE ELIGENDO VIDIT, AIT ILLI SEQVERE ME” (“Jesus, therefore, saw the publican, and because he saw by having mercy and by choosing, He said to him, ‘Follow me’”).”
Fortunately for me though, Jesus is spelled Yeezus.
