Miley Cyrus is in the lead to become TIME’s “Person of the Year.” The spot is usually reserved for highly influential people, previous winners include Barack Obama, Martin Luther King Jr., Mark Zuckerberg and Vladmir Putin. There have only been four women. So, technically, arguably, having Miley Cyrus win would be a win for feminism? I don’t know.

In any case TIME provides the disclaimer, “As always, TIME’s editors will choose the Person of the Year, but that doesn’t mean readers shouldn’t have their say.” So, Miley may not win, although it would probably sell TIME a ton of magazines. It’s quite pathetic that Miley Cyrus has more worship and praise than someone like Malala Yousafzai who is currently in 8th place.  It isn’t Miley’s fault that we live in a country where celebrities are considered more important than people trying to create world peace, technological innovators or women breaking the glass ceiling. The people who are actually in power are a lot less accessible than celebrities and that’s probably for the best.

Instead of harping on Miley, I thought it’d be good to take a look at some of the people she is beating out. You can vote for who you think should win TIME’s “Person of the Year,” here.
