Society decided to ask every seventeen or eighteen-year-old what they want to do with their life straight out of high school. Then society asked them to pay $200,000 to do so immediately after. Then society tells us that teenagers are stupid, immature and don’t know who they are yet. I had to decide which universities I was applying to when I was sixteen. (You start researching junior year, right? Those deadlines come early senior year.) I am the first person in my family to go to college so I didn’t have any help. I filled that FAFSA out on my own. I chose my college, my major, and ultimately my future without any real guidance. Things could have ended up HORRIBLY. That’s the thing, we’re either not helped at all or pushed in the wrong direction. Of course there are a lot of lucky people out there who find the balance and have amazing mentors, but the rest of us are left out in the cold.
For those who haven’t declared yet, it’s better to correct the mistake of choosing the wrong major before you end up investing anymore time and money in it. If you wait too long you’ll be stuck with it if you want to graduate in four to five years. Here are the 7 signs you might want to reassess which major you picked.
