A few days ago I was watching old episodes of One Tree Hill (which is my guiltiest of all pleasures), when something absolutely appalling happened on screen. And no, I’m not talking about one of the characters getting it on with another character’s mom. Or even the extremely intense school shooting episode that became one of the show’s most famous. Or even the fact that the show ran for nine seasons when even I, a fan of the show, knew the plugged should have been pulled after season 4.

I’m talking about the time Chad Michael Murray debuted a seriously awful haircut on the show – a chin-length bob which he wore tucked behind his ears, complete with enough grease to fry a few slices of bacon. I mean, CMM is a great looking guy. It’s all there – the bone structure, the brooding gaze. So why does he insist on ruining it all with terrible hair?

He’s not the only one either. This is coming on the heels of Jennifer Lawrence hacking off her flowing locks – and while J Law could never look bad, the short hair just ages her.

I commend all these stars for taking chances and changing it up – I mean, I’ve had the same waist-length layered cut for like, ten years and frankly I wish I had the guts to try something daring. But sometimes they just miss the mark – so let’s take a look at what happens when bad hair happens to good (looking) people.
