It finally happened. The guy from your Philosophy 101 class finally
blew open all stereotypes of college guys invited you out for a lovely candlelit meal. You first move? Text all your ladies to share the news. Then comes the hard part: figuring out your first date outfit.
There are a few things to take into account when conquering that step – like where you’ll be going, what the weather is like and of course, your own sense of personal style. But when it comes to beauty, there are a few universal tips that’ll serve any girl well on any date.
Keep it minimal: Look, if a guy asked you on a date it means he wants to possibly pursue a relationship with you. Instead of showing up for the date wearing every product in your arsenal, only to look like an entirely different person when you wake up next to him one Sunday morning, keep your face light and simple. I’m not saying you should ever wear/not wear/do anything to make a man happy, but I will say that he’ll likely be more enchanted by minimal makeup. Just like he probably slaved over ironing his favorite button-down, you can take steps to make yourself look totally date-appropriate.
Be romantic: I love to play dress up, which involves sensing the mood of an event and incorporating pieces or elements of that into my look. Soft colors – think light pink lip gloss, brown eyeliner instead of black and a very soft peach blush – bring the feeling of romance. These colors also look great in restaurant lighting.
Loose hair rules: Keeping your hair romantic is a great idea too. Big, soft, loose curls have that fairy princess feel to them. While straight hair will never go out for style, full bodied, soft curls are a less severe option. Pinning back the front of your hair is also a great idea, and I love small french braids along the hairline for a date.
Mix scents: Pairing a very clean, fresh body wash or even light scent with a more floral perfume will create a blend that he’ll always associate with you. Nix fruity scents, which can be overwhelmingly sweet. Light florals like rose or jasmine are great for romantic events.
Emphasize your eyes: This can be as simple as just curling your lashes and applying some mascara. You’ll be making a lot of eye contact so this is something he’ll notice – there’s no harm in making them look better than ever, right?
