The first weekend of Coachella will be wrapping up this evening with what is sure to be an epic performance by Arcade Fire (seriously — watch their 2011 Coachella performance for a taste of what to expect). And while I cannot wait to livestream the set from my laptop, I’m probably a little more excited to be able to say we are now officially in summer music festival season. I couldn’t afford to the trip out to California for Coachella, but here on the east coast we’re pretty lucky to have a few notable festivals of our own.

My personal favorite is New York City’s Governors Ball because a) it happens in my backyard and b) each year their lineup grows more and more incredible. This year sees Outkast, Vampire Weekend, Jack White and Skrillex headlining — and about 500 other bands performing that I cannot wait to watch. For those of you planning to make the trek over to Randall’s Island for three days of amazing music, local food vendors and the kind of fun only New York can provide, I’ll see you there. For everyone missing out, I’ve made a playlist of all the artists set for perform at Governors Ball — let this be the soundtrack of your morning commute and late night study sessions.
