Are Clarisonic Cleansing Brushes Worth It?

Fact: People rave about the Clarisonic skin brushes. Fact: These brushes are seriously pricey. And fact: I’m here to tell you that – in my humble opinion – you might want to consider saving your money.
I got my Clarisonic (I went with the Mia) about three years ago and thanks to the enormous praise surrounding the product, I was extremely excited about it. I expected something miraculous to happen – or at least for my skin to garner a stream of compliments every time I ventured out of the house. I’ve used the brush on and off for the three years and… I’m still waiting to see a significant improvement in my skin.
Admittedly, I’ve never had problem skin, at least not visibly. I have tons of skin allergies and I am very sensitive to most products, but (knock on wood) I’ve never had major skin woes. With that being said, I firmly believe in exfoliation – I mean, no matter how gorgeous your skin is, it could always benefit from a bit more glow, right? Being a fan of exfoliation, I should really love the Clarisonic line, since its whole purpose is to slough away dead skin with its circular motion. The truth is, though, I simply prefer using a facial scrub. I see an immediate difference when I do, whereas with the Clarisonic, I still haven’t seen a difference after prolonged regular use. For me, good exfoliation is more chemical than physical – that is to say, the product I use makes a bigger difference than the motion I use to apply it.
Something else you should consider: After you make the initial investment and buy this tool, you’ll have to keep replacing the brush heads every few months and they’re not exactly cheap either.
On the other hand, maybe I haven’t given this thing a fair chance. If we’re being completely honest, I often fail to recharge it right away when it runs out of juice, which means I’ll go months at a time without using it. There’s also the possibility that the improvements have happened gradually and are less noticeable than, say getting a facial.
But enough about me. I want to hear from you guys – would you shell out on this pricey device? Have you? Do you think it’s worth it?
If you haven’t yet and are considering it, here’s my advice – think about whether you can comfortably drop that kind of money on something that your favorite beauty writer (that’s totally me, right?) wouldn’t endorse 100%. Or at the very least, buy it from a place that will allow you to return if necessary.
