The ’90s were the last moment in history where we still needed school supplies that weren’t electronic gadgets. We wrote our essays by hand and learned to write in cursive. The amount of supplies required to get through a day of 6th grade was astonishing: pencils, pens, paper, binders, folders, rulers, calculators. Our backpacks were so heavy with textbooks and supplies we started using those dorky rolling book bags at one point. We immediately stopped because of how dorky it was but I secretly loved not having to carry all of that stuff on my back. I was diagnosed with arthritis when I was 12, it was not fun. Some school supplies were forgettable but there were just some things, usually cute things, that we look back at fondly. Wouldn’t it be nice to have cool pens and cute erasers today? Yes, but it would be a huge waste of money and totally unnecessary. Ah, if only.
