The #SoloYolo isn’t just a hashtag, it’s a state of mind. Editor-in-Chief Alex coined the term for when she would drink wine in a solo cup and explore her New Jersey scenery. #SoloYolo is a way of having fun and experiencing your life without it being contingent on other people. It’s like taking yourself out on an awesome date. #SoloYolo is a way of loving the most important person in your life: you. So how does one #SoloYolo? It’s pretty simple. Just have a good time with yourself and don’t feel awkward while you’re doing it. Wine isn’t a requirement but it is a suggestion.
Stimulate the senses with this molten lava cake for one. LOVE THY SELF WITH CHOCOLATE. It is a healing experience. Check out the recipe here.
Get some portable, stackable wine cups and go out to the beach or park. Relax, meditate, enjoy the weather and just exhale.
Go To A Book Store
Head to your favorite niche bookstore and spend the day perusing the aisles. Yeah, you can order books online for cheaper but you never really stumble into a good book the way you can at a bookstore. Online you have to know exactly what you want, here you can explore new topics and authors and discover something new.
Get All Dressed Up
Get all dressed up and go to the bar by yourself. This is probably the scariest #SoloYolo but it’s worth it. You’ll have to make conversation or learn to sit with yourself and not be afraid of the power of your own thoughts. Plus, there’s wine.
Brunch For One
Solo brunch is my favorite kind of brunch. It’s the best way to start the day after sleeping in late. You sit down, outside preferably, bring a book and a good playlist and go to town on some eggs.
See A Live Show
I’ve gone to so many concerts by myself and they do not disappoint. The difference between going alone and with a group of people are extreme disparities in intoxication. Whenever I’ve gone #SoloYolo at a show, I’ve paid more attention to what was happening and felt more connected to the music.
The second season of Orange Is The New Black just dropped on Netflix but let’s get real, binge watching TV is the most common and effective way to get your #SoloYolo on. Spend a Saturday watching a full season of a new show and you know what? Be proud of it girl. Ain’t no shame in the #SoloYolo game.
