About 150% of Beyoncé’s songs are about infidelity or being underestimated/unappreciated by her significant other (which has been Jay z for 12 years) so I don’t know why people are blowing a gasket over Bey changing one of the lyrics to the song “Resentment.” Beyowulf doesn’t have to change the lyrics to her songs to make them about Jay Z cheating on her. It should also be noted that Beyoncé doesn’t write most of her lyrics and is a co-writer at best.
The original lyrics to “Resentment” are, “I’ll always remember feeling like I was no good / Like I couldn’t do it for you like your mistress could/Been ridin’ with you for six years […] I gotta look at her in her eyes and see she’s had half of me.”
Bey changed the lyrics to, “I’ll always remember feeling like I was no good / Like I couldn’t do it for you like that wack bitch could/Been ridin’ with you for twelve years […] I gotta look at her in her eyes and see she’s had half of me. She ain’t even half of me. That bitch will never be.”
When Beyoncé first dropped “Resentment” she and Jay had been together for 4 years while the lyrics said “6 years” this was presumably done to establish that the song was not autobiographical. However, Bey and Jay haven been together for 12 years now, a fact that would make the song seem autobiographical. Why would Bey call out Jay for infidelity during a performance on a tour they are co-headlining?
I have no idea what is going on with The Carters, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Jay Z cheated on Bey, not just because of her lyrical content, but because a lot of human beings cheat on each other. The Carters are, in fact, human beings they just happen to be in nicer clothes than the rest of us.
