The movie biz sure is a changin’. How can an “indie” flick now have a ten million dollar budget when Kevin Smith rose to prominence with his twenty-eight thousand dollar “little movie that could” back in the early 90’s (talking about CLERKS of course, one of the most quotable movies in history). Has inflation gone up that much? No! The fact is that the independent film has lost touch with what it was supposed to be: A path for new filmmakers to tell new stories that Hollywood had no interest in. Thankfully, there are signs of life for the original indie scene. I present to you, dear readers, the Take Two Film Festival! Read on to learn the who, what, why, how, and where (SPOILER: New York F’n City!).
“We’re an entrapenurial venture that’s left the grassroots efforts and is starting to take shape in a different way,” is how Andishmand sums it all up nicely. “But it’s still somewhat of a startup mentality. And we hope to never leave that….You have to stay hungry, you have to have that carrot in front of you all the time.” Take Two dangles a heck of a carrot for all of you out there looking to make your silver screen dreams come true. Keep a sharp eye out for them.
