Disney’s D23 Expo has given us tons of inside looks and even more to look forward to. Add Moana to the list. The CGI-animated film Moana was previewed at Disney’s annual convention with the help of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who will voice the character of a demigod named Maui. Moana will be similar in spirit to her Disney counterparts, including Brave’s Merida and Frozen‘s Queen Elsa and Princess Anna.
Sketches and animations of Moana feature the pretty new princess in a South Pacific-inspired printed outfit, including a red crop top and mixed-media skirt. From the looks of it, Moana is equal parts sassy and strong!
Are those stills not gorgeous?!
As if this preview wasn’t exciting enough, Lin Manuel Miranda will be writing the music for the film. If you aren’t familiar with this name yet, you will be. He’s the amazing composer and star (and Tony winner) of Broadway shows like In The Heights and Hamilton. As a self-proclaimed Broadway nerd, I’m freaking out a little bit.
Moana will sail into theaters on November 23, 2016…then maybe everyone will stop singing “Let It Go.”
