Talk about wise beyond years. At 13, I was probably worried about getting my first kiss and passing algebra. Rowan Blanchard is penning essays about the importance of intersectional feminism.
Earlier this summer, Girl Meets World star Rowan Blanchard spoke at the UN Women’s annual conference about gender inequality. Now, the 13-year-old actress has responded to a Tumblr user who asked her about “white feminism” by posting on the topic of intersectional feminism and how women of different backgrounds experience inequality in different ways.
“’White feminism’ forgets all about intersectional feminism,” Blanchard wrote on Tumblr. “The way a black woman experiences sexism and inequality is different from the way a white woman experiences sexism and inequality. Likewise with trans-women and Hispanic women. While white women are making 78 cents to the dollar, Native American women are making 65 cents, black women are making 64 cents, and Hispanic women are making 54 cents.”

Emma Watson, who serves as an ambassador for UN Women, praised Blanchard’s essay on Twitter.
