Angela Raiola, commonly known as “Big Ang” on the television show, Mob Wives, has died at age 55 in the hospital on Wednesday after a battle with stage 4 cancer.
In March 2015, a lemon-sized tumor was discovered and removed from her throat. Later in June of the same year, Raiola underwent the same procedure for the right side of her throat as well. In December, it was confirmed by Entertainment Tonight that her throat cancer had returned.
During her cancer battle, Raiola revealed on The Dr. Oz Show that she had left her husband, Neil Murphy. She said, “I felt like he never stepped up to the plate, so I was done with it. Now, it’s too late. I would rather be by myself. I would rather be alone.”
Big Ang is survived by her sister, Janine Detore, her two children, Raquel and Anthony Donfrio, and six grandchildren. In February, the family set up a GoFundMe page to help pay Raiola’s doctor fees. The page raised over $45,000 in two weeks.
On The Dr. Oz Show, Raiola expressed gratitude for her children on the program, saying, “If it wasn’t for them, how would I get through this?”
Rest in peace, Big Ang.
