Today, Kerry Washington called out Adweek magazine for photoshopping her cover shoot. She took to her personal Instagram account to discuss the recent issue. Washington began, “You know me. I’m not one to be quiet about a magazine cover.”
She said that it “felt strange” to see herself on the cover of the magazine, as it was “so different from what I look like when I look in the mirror.” Washington added that it was “an unfortunate feeling.”
Washington additionally highlighted that this instance was not the first time she’s been Photoshopped before. “Look, I’m no stranger to Photoshopping. It just happens a lot…we have become a society of picture adjusters…”
Despite the drama that surrounds her magazine cover photo, Washington said that she was still “proud” of the article. According to USA Today, she thanked her fans for their support and encouraged them to pick up a copy of the issue.
In response to Washington’s comments, James Cooper, Adweek‘s editorial director, issued a statement. It said:
“Kerry Washington is a class act. We are honored to have her grace our pages. To clarify, we made minimal adjustments, solely for the cover’s design needs. we meant no disrespect, quite the opposite. We are glad she is enthusiastic about the piece and appreciate her honest comments.”
Cooper later tweeted that the only change made to the cover regarding Washington’s hair.
Happy @kerrywashington was proud of her Adweek profile, sad cover misses for her. Added volume to hair for dramatic effect. No disrespect.
