During last night’s Billboard Music Awards, Demi Lovato took to the stage with a mission: to prove she’s got the talent to be up there in the first place, and to make a political statement worth hearing.
During her performance, Lovato wore a gender neutral shirt to subtly announce her opinion on the whole gender neutral bathroom situation. Her support of transgender rights was heard load and clear despite her singing “Cool For The Summer.”
Here’s a closer look:
As expected, it did not go unnoticed on Twitter. The popstar got an overwhelming amount of support from her fans and the general Twitter population alike.

Lovato has been known to support LGBTQ rights in the past. In April she cancelled her shows with Nick Jonas in Raleigh and Charlotte after North Carolina’s anti-LGBTQ HB2 bill passed. She released the following public statement to explain their decision:

Personally, I think it’s awesome that she’s standing up for what she believes in. If you don’t use your platform to make a statement (and a positive one at that), then what’s the point of having it in the first place?
What do you think about her shirt? Sound off in the comments below.
