Definitely not the New Girl anymore. Basically cinema royalty, Zooey Deschanel has parents and a sister who all work in the film industry. You may know her as an actress, but she proves there’s nothing she can’t do as she’s also a singer-songwriter and website co-founder. Though many know her from things like Elf and New Girl, Deschanel sings and writes for She & Him. She’s multi-talented and it has paid off in a big way.

The mom of one is a Critics’ Choice Award winner and has gained 10 nominations for several different awards shows, earning praise for her work in New Girl. Her notoriety has helped her in adding to her net worth, as well as her resume.

Zooey Deschanel is approximately worth $18 million.

Let’s look at a timeline of her success.

2003 – 2006

Deschanel’s breakthrough role was in All the Real Girls in which she was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Actress.

The same year, Deschanel starred opposite Will Ferrell in one of everyone’s favorite Christmas movies, Elf. It was in this film where she briefly showed her singing talents when she sang “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” which was featured on the soundtrack. She also played a role in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, which was a box office hit, opening in first place.

2007 – 2008

Deschanel had previously co-performed with singer-songwriter M. Ward and later the duo made it official with the creation of their band She & Him. Their debut album, Volume One, was released in early 2008. She not only made her own music but also appeared on the albums of several other artists.

Deschanel did not just stick to singing and made tons of TV appearances, including on Weeds and Tin Man. She worked on some major movies, including Bridge to Terabithia and Surf’s Up. Both of the films did very well in terms of commercial success.

2009 – 2010

The year of the film where every girl dragged their boyfriends to see. In (500) Days of Summer, Deschanel co-starred opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt, a co-star from her past. Acting through her character’s breakup paid off, as the film was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture.

This was also the year She & Him released their second album, Volume Two. The duo went on tour in the USA and Europe.

Perhaps her best years up to this point, Deschanel took on the role of Jess Day in Fox’s New Girl. This role has led her to receive three Golden Globe nominations and one Emmy. New Girl premiered for its sixth season on September 20, 2016.

It was early in 2011 that Deschanel co-founded the “HelloGiggles” Youtube channel, catered for females. Also, Deschanel continued her musical success, when She & Him released their Christmas album. Along with (500) Days of Summer co-star, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Deschanel recorded “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?” for “HelloGiggles.” It currently has 17 million views.

It wasn’t just the film industry that was after Deschanel. In 2012, Deschanel became the face of Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths campaign in order to raise awareness about the American Cancer Society Wig Bank, which takes hair donations for cancer patients.

Soon after, Deschanel and fellow co-founders transitioned from the “HelloGiggles” channel to create an entertainment website of the same name, which receives approximately 17 million visitors monthly. “HelloGiggles” was bought in 2015 by Time Inc.

All in all, if Deschanel ever wanted to stop acting, she has plenty of other options and talents to keep her busy and her bank full.
