Ben & Lauren: Happily Ever After? Spoilers & Recap, Episode 1

Like every reality show ever, rumors are flying around that the entire show is heavily scripted, despite the couple promising fans that they won’t “censor themselves.” But viewers are already calling the show’s promo “fake” and “scripted.”

“Wow they’re bad actors. SO scripted. I was actually considering watching… not anymore. Looks so dumb,” a Facebook user commented. Another fan mirrored the sentiment. “Omg wow real problems… I was excited to watch this but its so scripted and now am not. If this scene was the most dramatic its gonna get good luck to staying on air.”

Granted this is before the show actually aired, so maybe their minds will be changed tonight. Tonight expect for Higgins and Bushnell to bicker over returning to reality TV. According to Bushnell, she was forced by Higgins to get back in front of the camera. “I didn’t have a choice. I feel like you just said ‘Yes’ for both of us, but it’s fine,” she told Ben. “I only agreed to this thing because it was something that Ben wanted to do but now I’m starting to wish that I have never let Ben talk me into this,” Lauren later explained to the cameras.

During the first episode of Ben Higgins’ and Lauren Bushnell’s new show, there was a TON of fighting. After Bushnell found out Higgins confessed his love for Jojo Fletcher on air, things didn’t end well. The couple spent a majority of the episode bickering over the “Jojo situation” and were left feeling stressed out over appearing on After The Final Rose for her season of The Bachelorette. Bushnell worried that Higgins still had feelings for his reality star ex.

“The roller coaster of emotions from reliving Ben being the Bachelor has been really difficult for me. Especially because at the end he was torn,” Bushnell explained, admitting that the situation led to multiple arguments.

Things didn’t get any better when a producer called the couple to invite them on After The Final Rose. Naturally, Bushnell didn’t want to go. “That’s a weird request,” Higgins told the producer. “Let both parties move on.”

Later Bushnell explained her thinking. “My worry with After The Final Rose is all those feelings I felt watching the Bachelor and my fiancé telling another woman that the loves her and the hurt that it caused… that it will just make all those feelings resurface,” she said. As Fletcher told her suitors that Higgins left her heartbroken, Bushnell is seen looking pretty pissed.

“Babe you just got called out on national TV,” she says as Fletcher tells Jordan Rodgers that she struggles to believe he’s really in love with her. “For someone who has supposedly moved on, JoJo talks a lot about Ben.” But like any man who has to deal with a jealous counterpart, Higgins reassures Bushnell that he couldn’t see his life without her.

Later, Fletcher calls the couple to invite them out to dinner with her and Rodgers. Higgins accepts the invite without telling Bushnell. Bad move, buddy! “I’m starting to wish I had never let Ben talk me into this,” she says. “This just isn’t my idea of fun.”

Someone has some trust issues. But can you blame her? Tune in next week to watch them bicker some more.
