Let’s face it, Beyoncé’s dance moves are inspirational. Take the prom-goers who used Queen B’s work to make a dramatic dress reveal. Or the bride who surprised her husband with some killer dance moves at their wedding reception. One officer from Virginia took things to a new level by performing the exact choreography of “Formation” in front of an entire high school. Solo.
31-year-old 2nd Lieutenant Deuntay Diggs decided to surprise North Stafford High School at their pep rally on October 14th. It’s clear from the footage that those teens are losing their minds over how good this guy is:
He’s literally dancing in front of hundreds of high school students, no fear of judgment, no shame, no nothing. He just WERKS:
He wasn’t initially going to show up to the pep rally, according to BuzzFeed. Diggs was scheduled to be at the pep rally when he found out his biological mother had terminal cancer. But while visiting her, Diggs showed her some of his dance videos and she encouraged him to keep dancing. So he called the school and told them that he was going to keep his commitment with them.
Diggs is the first openly gay deputy at the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, and has been serving them for eight years. He had also previously performed the routine at a lip syncing contest to benefit children who needed school supplies back in August. Diggs says that he learned the choreography by watching the video over and over again the night before he first did it.
“The reason I’m doing this is to show kids that they can make it, that they can survive, that they can be successful,” Digs explained. “I’ve been very fortunate, at this time when people look negatively upon law enforcement, that I’m able to change that narrative and open up some conversations and engage with people.”
We’d say Beyoncé is definitely a good start to that goal!
