Ryan Lochte isn’t going to get out of this one, despite his best efforts (and those of his lawyers).
According to reports from TMZ, a Rio de Janeiro judge has denied Lochte’s request to dismiss his criminal case. But that’s not all, it gets worse for Lochte. Apparently, the judge not only dismissed his request but also transferred his case to an even higher court.
A representative for the Court of Justice gave TMZ more details, reporting that the Rio judge in charge of Ryan’s case moved it up to the public Ministry of Justice. This means that the Ministry of Justice will now work on figuring out how large of a fine to slap on Ryan, and the court representative revealed it will no doubt be in excess of the $11,000 fine Lochte’s teammate, Jimmy Feigen, had to pay this summer. In case you forgot, Lochte and three other teammates from the USA Swim Team got into deep trouble after fabricating a story about an incident at a Rio gas station.
The decision from the Rio Ministry of Justice could come as early as next week.
