Rejoice, Pixar fans, because the sequel for everyone’s favorite movie is finally coming out! And it’ll be in theaters sooner than anyone expected. Apparently, the premiere date for The Incredibles 2 has been bumped up to June 15, 2018, according to the Hollywood Reporter. That’s literally an entire year earlier than its original June 21, 2019 release.
This is good news. There’s no way Pixar would move a premiere date up that much if this movie wasn’t already…incredible. But it’s not just the date that’s being moved; The Incredibles 2 is now facing “an accelerated production schedule,” the Hollywood Reporter also writes. Oscar winner Brad Bird is directing the animated film, and it clearly seems to be going well.
Basically, this sequel must already be excellent if it’s being fast-tracked like this! The original 2004 movie was such a mega-hit that the demand for this movie is already super-high. But this news about the acceleration essentially promises that it will meet the expectations set by the first film. Because let’s face it, The Incredibles is definitely one of the best Pixar films.
But it comes with a cost. By choosing to push The Incredibles 2 ahead of schedule, Pixar is swapping its release date with that of Toy Story 4. Meaning we’ll have to wait an extra year until 2019 to see what happens next with Woody and Buzz. Sorry if you’re a die-hard Toy Story fan.
…But not that sorry, because Toy Story already has two great sequels to indulge in while The Incredibles has none. Even without the accelerated production schedule, it would make a lot of sense for the movies to swap just based on demand for the sequels. It will still be 14 years since the first movie made its way into theaters (and our DVD collections) but still!
Let’s just hope Edna Mode makes another cameo in 2018.
