It’s Vampire Diaries’ final season, cue the tears and get ready for even more blood. The end of the seventh season brought the beloved characters a moment of happiness for once. Caroline and Stefan had no more tension, Bonnie and Enzo were together and Damon was selfless. That moment quickly ended when Damon and Enzo disappeared and Bonnie’s magic never returned.

The first episode of the latest season begins with humanity-less Damon and Enzo killing a couple and adding to their collection, which is just another casual night for the duo. Controlled by Sybil the Siren, Damon and Enzo have become enslaved to follow her will. However, we have been given some hope. Damon still thinks of Elena in his darkest moments while Enzo has subtly left Bonnie a string of clues to know that they need help. Despite Stefan and Caroline’s search for Damon and Enzo, their relationship appears to be at peace at the moment. The end of the episode saw their decision to live together. But, knowing the show, we can’t help but doubt how much longer it’ll last.

So, what can we expect from this season? Each title of this season is a quote from past episodes. Show creator Julie Plec has given us all hope for Elena as she’s announced that Nina Dobrev is 100% willing to return. Thank goodness for that because we need some closure in her fate and we need to know if Delena or Stelena will be endgame, or not. Elena’s not the only character returning, Tyler and Sarah might also make reappearances. Meanwhile, Kat Graham has teased that someone is set to die midway through the season. Also, it was rumored that wedding bells will be heard, but we all remember what happened the last time a couple was standing on the altar. And while romance has always been a big part of the show, this season will solidify the fact Stefan and Damon’s relationship will always come before all.

We’re just 15 episodes from the end, and it better be epic. The Vampire Diaries airs every Friday at 8:00 P.M. ET on the CW.
