While everyone else was fangirling over Cedric Diggory during Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, I was siding with Hermione: Viktor Krum was a hottie. Not only was he tall and strong and no-BS when it came to winning, he’s also like the greatest Quidditch seeker in the world. (I always did have a thing for jocks.)
Turns out, the guy who brought the book character to life wasn’t really into the idea of acting. On EW‘s “Binge podcast,” Bulgarian Stanislav Ianevski revealed he got the part after running into a casting agent in his school hallway while he was running late to a class registration.
He also revealed he almost appeared in another HP movie.
“[Yates] invented a new story that wasn’t in the books, a love triangle between Viktor Krum, Hermione, and Ron,” Stan explained, “but that was cut out of the film because it obviously didn’t fit with all the horrible things that happen in the last book.” Maybe it didn’t fit, but Ianevski went on to explain what could’ve been: “We did a new dance scene, I sort of stole [Hermione] from Ron,” he recalls. “She remembered our old times, Viktor was acting like a gentleman again, happy to see her, she was happy to see him. Ron was sitting on the side, was jealous, and then Viktor took her to the dance floor.”
So what is Stan up to nowadays? Judging from his Instagram page, the buzzcut is dunzo and he looks more suited to appear on Game of Thrones alongside Khalessi than Harry Potter.
But the HP love still runs strong – he still makes appearances at events and is more than happy to pose next to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child posters. Check out some of his best Insta pics below.
