Joe Chandler is a smart man. Unlike the rest of us, who were immersed in the 2016 presidential election and eventual results, Chandler has no idea who won that damn circus, and he has no intention of finding out. The Southern Georgia man told FOX 5 Atlanta that he has no clue as to who will be running the country come January 20.
“I was invited to an election party to stay up into the night with everybody gnawing their nails, hanging on and I thought, oh there has to be a better way,” he said, further explaining that he was fed up with the whole thing and went to bed early. He initially intended to find out who won in the morning, but decided against it because of how peaceful he felt when waking up. He opted for finding out that afternoon but didn’t then either. Eventually he went a whole week.
Considering he works from home, it’s easy for Chandler to avoid the answer. He has managed to stay away from televisions, newspapers and social media, and when he goes out (which according to the TV interview, is rare), he wears headphones and carries a sign that reads “I don’t know who won and don’t want to. Please don’t tell me.”
“Having subtracted myself from this political fracas and all of the mayhem of the digital media, I kind of found the center of the cyclone, it is very peaceful in my bubble of ignorance,” he explained. According to Atlanta’s WXIA, Chandler has a goal of keeping his ignorance alive until 2020 — the next presidential election. Obviously this probably won’t happen, but a man can dream.
Fortunately when he eventually hears the news, he won’t be too disappointed either way. “Not a big fan of either, but I did have a huge preference of the regime that I was hoping we would avoid,” said Chandler.
Good luck with this Joe Chandler! We hope no one bursts your bubble too early.
