After two years of marriage, Naya Rivera and her husband Ryan Dorsey are separating. The actress reportedly filed for divorce from her husband on November 15 at the Los Angeles County Court, Us Weekly reports. She is also seeking primary physical custody of their 14-month-old son, Josey, with visitation rights for Dorsey.

“After much consideration, we have made the decision to end our marriage,” the couple told Us in a joint statement on Monday, November 21. “Our priority is and always will be our beautiful son that we share together. We will continue to be great co-parenting partners for him. We ask for respect and privacy for our family during this difficult time.”

The couple tied the knot in a secret ceremony in July 2014, the same date Rivera was set to marry her ex-fiancé Big Sean. Three months after Big Sean and Rivera called off their engagement, she walked down the aisle with Dorsey. In September 2014, the two welcomed their first child.

“Naya didn’t tell most of her friends that she was marrying Ryan Dorsey, let alone that she was dating him!” a source told Us Weekly at the time of their wedding. “The whole thing is a complete surprise.”

In her book Sorry Not Sorry, Rivera discussed various relationships and alleged that Big Sean cheated on her with Ariana Grande.

“I learned that I was no longer getting married from the internet, and at the same time as the rest of the world,” Rivera explained in her memoir. “Not only were we no longer getting married, but apparently we weren’t even together anymore.”

She also revealed that she had an abortion while filming Glee, after she found out she was pregnant with Ryan Dorsey’s child. She did not tell Dorsey about the pregnancy at the time and terminated it during one of her days off from filming the popular high school drama. Not long after, the couple married and had a child of their own.

“It was very scary to open up about everything,” she says. “It’s not something a lot of people talk about, but I think they should. I know some people might read it and say, ‘What the Hell?’ But I hope someone out there gets something out of it… I hope Josey will read it one day. I hope it gives him a better perspective on the issues women face.”
