Remember the magical world of Pandora from the 2009 movie Avatar? Flexible blue people, enormous trees, floating mountains and a magical forest are some of the highlights. If you thought this place could only exist on screen or in your imagination, think again–you’ll be able to visit it next summer at Walt Disney World‘s Animal Kingdom.
Bob Chapek, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, shared the news on Saturday morning, and said Pandora: The World of Avatar will be “the most immersive land that we’ve ever built. There is no challenge too big for [the Imagineers].”
The opening date is still TBD, but Chapek presented new construction photos and never-before-seen artistic renderings. The images show a canteen, shopping area and beverage stand, all designed to be “in story.” A video of a Na’vi River ride was also presented. “Even if you haven’t see the movie, you’ll still get it,” Chapek said. Good news if you’re not a geek/not my friend so I couldn’t force you to watch Avatar–which, by the way, was the highest grossing film of all time.
The theme park is set to be filled with floating mountains, lifelike greenery and two incredible, tech-savvy rides. Looks like I know where I’ll be spending my next vacation.
