Kanye West has been one of the most successful and controversial rappers of all time. The outspoken singer has won countless Grammy Awards and accolades for his contributions to the music industry. West hasn’t made a name for himself for just producing catchy music, he’s also a pretty successful entrepreneur. In the fashion realm, his Yeezy collection has seen much acclaim along with his collaborations with Adidas. West is definitely talented and, as we’ve seen, he knows it.
Whether it was during his humble beginnings or during the Kardashian years, West has been in the limelight for his hard-hitting songs and headline-grabbing antics. West has even had his fair share of drama in the tabloids recently and we’re hoping that he gets better and gets back to his true Kanye West self soon. In the meantime, let’s take a look at the Grammy Award Winner’s very lucrative career. What is Kanye West’s net worth right now?
Kanye West is worth approximately $145 million.
Let’s take a look at the timeline of West’s career.
2001 – 2004
West attended Chicago State University for one year but eventually dropped out to pursue a career in music. When West arrived in NYC, rapper and current ex-best friend Jay Z took West under his wing. West worked with Jay in producing music for him and other artists including Beyonce and Ludacris. He couldn’t stay purely behind the scenes for too long. West went into business with Roc-A-Fella in order to produce his own album. The College Dropout, the title of which is a play on West’s own brief time at college, was released in 2004 to high critical acclaim and really set things off for West’s music career.
2005 – 2008
It didn’t take long for West to release even more music. He released his next album, Late Registration, in 2005. The album included hits like “Diamonds from Sierra Leone” and “Gold Digger,” the latter of which earned West a Grammy for Best Rap Solo Performance. He was back at the studio again and released another album soon after entitled Graduation in 2007. Graduation included the smash success “Stronger” and the Grammy Award-winning song, “Good Life.” Late in 2007, West experienced an unexpected loss. West’s mother, Donda, passed away due to complications from a cosmetic surgery. The loss obviously took a heavy toll on the singer. He put himself even more into his music after and released 808s & Heartbreak in 2008.
2009 – 2011
If West wasn’t already well-known for his music, a certain 2009 event definitely put him on the map. During the MTV Video Music Awards, West thought that it was an opportune time to take to the stage as Taylor Swift was accepting an award, an award which Beyonce was also nominated for. He took to the stage in the middle of her speech and stated, “Yo Taylor, I’m really happy for you and I’mma let you finish. But Beyonce had one of the greatest music videos of all time.” and then all but mic dropped and left the stage. West eventually apologized but the feud lasted years (and is recently on again). In the music field, he released My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy in 2010 and the critically acclaimed Watch The Throne in 2011, which was a collaboration between him and his mentor Jay Z.
2012 – 2016
West’s life changed majorly again in 2012 as he started to date his current wife Kim Kardashian. The two are still together today and have two children together, North and Saint. While some tabloids might speculate on marriage troubles for the two, they have both been there for each other in recent months during their respective hardships. West released another album Yeezus in 2013 and gave himself another fun (yet egocentric…) nickname. The album was, unsurprisingly, a success. His next music venture came in 2016 with the album The Life of Pablo, which underwent numerous title changes and changing release dates before being released to the masses.
With all of these successful albums (and a clothing line to boot!) it’s no wonder why West’s net worth is $145 million. He’s definitely gone through and done a lot during his career. Even with his current situation, we don’t expect West to be out of the game for too long. We’ll be here ready and waiting to see what Yeezy does next!
