Despite what Kanye West’s meeting with Donald Trump looked like (another bout of temporary psychosis/agreement to sing while Trump gets sworn into office), Jackie Evancho, 16, announced on the Today Show this morning that she’d be singing the national anthem at the President-elect’s inauguration.
“I have recently been asked by the President-elect to perform the national anthem for the swearing in ceremony at the inauguration and I am so excited,” she said. But seriously, she looks like really excited. Check it out:
So who is Jackie Evancho? Below you’ll find everything you need to know about the teenage singer.
1. She was on America’s Got Talent.
Before Evancho agreed to the prestigious performance, she came in as runner-up on the show’s fifth season when she was 10 years old. Yeah — 10 freakin’ years old. The girl has some serious pipes. Check it out:
2. She’s known for her work in the classical crossover genre.
For anyone who has no idea WTF that is, the classical crossover genre mixes classical music with elements of pop. The more you know! Evancho produced her debut EP O Holy Night in November 2010 shortly after America’s Got Talent wrapped and with her most recent album being Someday at Christmas. Despite what it looks like, Evancho is known for more than just holiday music; she released three singles this year, including one called “Apocalypse.” Fitting!
3. She loves animals.
Not only does she say that her dog Maggie is her best friend, but she’s also been a spokesperson for the Humane Society for several years. She says if she could be any animal in the world, she’d be a puppy. Same, girl!
4. She’s met Donald Trump before.
They met six years ago, to be exact. This also won’t be her first major performance. “Jackie has participated in many high profile events including the Oprah finale spectacular as well as the lighting of the National Christmas Tree in Washington, D.C., where she sang—and delighted—President and Mrs. Obama,” Evancho’s website reads.
5. She’s done modeling work.
Aside from her incredible vocal cords, Evancho has also been making a name for herself in the modeling world. In 2012, she was selected by GUESS owner Paul Marciano to star in the line’s fall clothing campaign for children. Talk about a go-getter.
