Prince. Florence Henderson. Gene Wilder. David Bowie. Alan Rickman.
And the list goes on.
It’s a scary time to be a celebrity – they all seem to be going down fast. But 2016 simply can not take Betty White.
Following the recent passing of both George Michael and Carrie Fisher, fear that the Golden Girls actress would be the next to go flooded social media. In an effort to “protect” her, a dude named Demetrios Hrysikos did the only logical thing: create a GoFundMe page.
“Help 2016 catch these hands if it goes anywhere near Betty White!” he wrote. “If she’s okay with it I will fly to where ever Betty White is and keep her safe till Jan 1 , 2017.”
He continued, “Now , assuming she doesn’t want a strange Greek standing gaurd outside her door all monies will be donated to the Spartanburg little theater to help craft new stars of stage and screen to carry mantle of the legends that have left is this year.”
On top of being shared over 23,000 times in less than a day, the campaign has actually exceeded its fundraising goal of $2,000. Some donations are as high as $100 because let’s face it – Betty White must be saved.
Although this is clearly a joke, the creator says the page has served its purpose.
“The idea came to me after news of Carrie fishers passing to try and put a smile Back on some people faces and do some good!” he said.
But really – grab a doctor, get your ass to Betty’s house, and make sure that lady makes it a few more days!
